The SMS service allows you to send and receive SMS messages directly from your Communicator desktop and mobile apps. It also includes a powerful bulk messaging feature for reaching many recipients at once.
SMS uses a mobile-prefix number (04xx) — we’ll issue one alongside your existing landline if you don’t have one. More in Scope below.
📲 Everyday Messaging
- Send and receive SMS messages with customers and colleagues from your Communicator app.
- Keep conversations in one place without switching between devices.
- Replies are delivered instantly, just like a regular text message.
- Works on Communicator desktop (Windows / macOS) and Communicator GO on iPhone and Android — the same conversation thread on every device you’re signed in to.
👥 Per-Number Routing & Shared Inboxes
Decide who in your team gets each number’s messages.
- Assign one mobile number to one extension, or multiple extensions — both options are supported.
- When a customer texts your reception number, everyone assigned to reception sees it. Whoever picks it up first replies.
- Sales, support, accounts, dispatch — each team can own its own number with its own shared inbox.
- No one’s personal mobile is involved. The business owns the number, and conversations stay on the business platform.
📢 Bulk Messaging
The Bulk Messages section allows users to send important information to many people at once.

✍️ Custom Bulk Messages
The SMS platform also supports personalized bulk messaging.
- Upload a CSV file with recipient details (e.g., name, account number, booking time).
- Use those values as dynamic placeholders in your messages.
- Each recipient receives a message tailored to them.
Example:
CSV includes: Name, Appointment Time
Message template:
“Hello {Name}, this is a reminder that your appointment is scheduled at {Appointment Time}.”
Automatically sends personalized SMS messages like:
- Hello Sarah, your appointment is scheduled at 10:30 AM.
- Hello James, your appointment is scheduled at 11:15 AM.

📏 Message Length & Segmentation
- GSM-7 Encoding: Up to 160 characters in one message. If longer, split into 153-character segments.
- Unicode/Emoji: Limited to 70 characters per segment. Concatenated messages are split into 67-character segments.
- Concatenation: Longer texts are reassembled on the recipient’s phone, but billed as multiple messages.
Examples:
- 160 characters = 1 SMS billed.
- 161 characters = 2 SMS segments billed.
- 320 characters = 3 SMS segments billed.
🛑 Scope (what this isn’t)
- Not SMS from a landline number. Mobile-prefix only — Australian network rule, applies on every carrier.
- Not international SMS to every country. Australian mobiles are fully supported; overseas destinations are quoted case-by-case.
- Not for unsolicited marketing. Australian SPAM Act applies — you must have consent. We help you stay compliant; we don’t carry mass cold-blast traffic.
🚀 Getting Started
- Contact our support team to enable SMS service on your account. If you don’t already have a mobile-prefix number with us, we’ll issue one for SMS.
- Tell us which extensions should receive messages for each number (reception, sales, support — your call).
- Log into your Communicator desktop or mobile app.
- Navigate to the SMS or Bulk Messages section.
- Start sending and receiving SMS messages immediately.
Most existing CloudPBX accounts can be SMS-enabled the same business day.
